Ironwall removes your personally identifiable information (PII) essentially anywhere it’s found online. This guide will explain what information that includes, what information can’t be removed, where we remove it from, and why you can find your information on search engines such as Google.
Here are some of the sources Ironwall checks and removes your data from.
Anywhere a search engine can reach
Ironwall takes a comprehensive approach to tracking down and removing your personal information from the web. We automatically run routine scans on a growing list of data brokers and send repeated removal requests to ensure your data stays off these sites.
Our dedicated team of privacy specialists also track government websites, social media, and any other online sources where your data may reside and a search engine can reach. When we find your information there, we send removal requests manually.
Ironwall’s privacy specialists are trained to deal with any obstacle they may face in removing your data. In especially difficult cases of non-compliance, they may even contact the local district attorney to ensure your data privacy is protected.
Data brokers
The websites where we most frequently find information are Nuwber, Spokeo, Yellow Pages, USA Profile Pages, Radaris, and Intelius.
However, removing personal information from these types of data brokers and people finder sites only comprises about 40% of the possible places where this content could be found online, which is why we scan the entire web.
Search engines
Search engines like Google compile information from multiple online sources, including data brokers and people-finder sites. Our service scans the entire web to locate sites where your information is found, and contacts those sites to make sure it’s taken down. Removing that content where it appears takes time, but eventually it will be effective in removing it from Google and other search engines.
Social media
We don’t remove your social media accounts from the internet. We do, however, remove social media posts or instances of someone sharing your name and home address publicly without your consent.
Government sites and public records
In some cases, we can also remove your information from government websites and public records. This is only possible if you live in a state with laws and regulations that grant you certain protections, such as the right to redact or replace certain PII or remove information if you’re an official in a sensitive position.
Dark web
Since the dark web exists outside the law, we cannot legally force its removal. But that doesn’t mean we don’t check for your data there. We monitor the dark web for your personal information and alert you when it appears. While removing that information isn’t possible, knowing when your data is exposed there allows you to take steps to protect your personal and financial accounts.
